The alarm is activated when the pin attached to the keychain is pulled.

Or by pressing the alarm button on the top of the unit.

Can be used as a flashlight without activating the alarm to provide additional night time safety.

Thank you this is what I needed.I was looking for a personal alarm for my key chain, this one is wonderful. It looks like a little blue computer mouse ...but the alarm is loud and the light that is included helps me see to get my keys in the lock at my apartmnet buliding.
